mender of the broken pieces.

my mother is a sewing machine,
always fixing things
broken hearts and paper wings.
the night vanessa passed away
a car accident took a life far too young
to leave this earthly life.
my mother on the phone, miles away
listened to me cry
or when my dad moved out - said it was time for a change.
i knew he wasn't happy,
i felt we weren't good enough for him to stay.
she kept our family from fraying.

my mother starts with a simple piece of fabric.
delicate, a solid shade of blue
adding seams, buttons, and zippers.
each addition makes it stronger.
adding beauty to a broken piece of fabric.
and so it is in my family.
she sews each piece back together,
giving new life to what was once broken
and torn apart.

it isn't easy being strong all the time.
if you aren't careful her needle may poke you
when your heart is pushed too far.
she needs a break from fixing your problems,
once in awhile.
but mostly she will mend your broken heart.

thanksgiving has come and gone, all too quickly if you ask me. but, that also means it's finally time to start decorating my apartment with happy christmas decorations! i have to admit decorating the house with christmas cheer is my favorite part of the holidays this time of year. i've been collecting some decorating ideas on pinterest i thought someone besides me might appreciate. :)

decorating with banners.

let's imagine for a second that you lived with me. weird right? well, one thing you would quickly come to find out is that i love to decorate. not just the decorating that goes up and doesn't come down until you move, but decorating for birthday's and  holiday's too. i have two very large storage bins full of holiday decorations not to mention the giant storage bin full of pictures in frames and milk glass vases for everyday decor. as of lately i've been on a banner/bunting kick. {which you have probably seen just about every where else too} here's some of the banner's i've made lately:

my favorite thing about banners is that they are super easy to make and cost little to nothing depending on if you already have scrapbook paper & string/yarn.

in case you couldn't tell, i didn't make this last one. sshhh!

iheartfaces - Surprise!

This weeks theme for iheartfaces is Surprise{!} One thing I've learned since my sister had her first child is that holidays are so much funner with kids around! For Pioneer Day in Utah this year, my family did some little street fireworks and the kids reactions were {priceless!} This particular photo shows my nieces surprised reaction to an especially awesome firework.

Lazy summer days

I was going through some older pictures from this summer and found these and thought I would post them. Aren't these two just the cutest!?! S & K love playing in the water any chance they get!

These were taken in a neighbor's backyard. We "adopted" a lost duck that hatched in our yard and went to visit it. Me, M and my Mom enjoyed taking photos of the cute duck family and lilly pad's. Beautiful!

4th of July

4th of July with my cute niece and nephew. They are easily my favorite people to photograph, which you probably can tell with all the post's they're in! They love playing in the water! I love them!
