positive thoughts + preperation = positive outcomes.

i have a math test today. it's a re-take actually of a test i took last week which i didn't do so hot on. i may or may not have had a major breakdown last night which resulted in a massive migraine this morning. not good. but, after a whole lot of studying (which included A LOT of help from my mom) and whole lotta prayers i am feeling somewhat completely prepared. now i've just got to believe i can actually get through the test with a decent grade so i can pass this awful AWESOME math class for once and for all (i've taken 1010 not once, but three times...judge me if you will). failure is NOT an option.

friday happy list p.16. why i love my major.

this edition of the friday happy list is brought to you in part by the utah state university english department.

why i love my major!

...i have the greatest professors. seriously.
...my professors already know me by name.
...classes i actually look forward to.
...everyone is so happy and friendly.
...real life lessons taught through reading and writing.
...even the 'textbooks,' i enjoy reading.
...teachers that actually care about you as an individual.

it took me three years and two previous majors before i finally made the decision to change my major, yet again, to english. i love everything about it. i can say with absolute certainty that this is what i want to do for the rest of my life. (the english - writing part, not the school part. :) when i told a certain someone in my life i would be changing my major from social work to english, they looked at me with the most disapproving look and questioned why i would choose to do that. i'll admit that this upset me, and made me question for a second what i was doing. until i realized...this is my choice. it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks or believes. i love what i'm doing. my first three years of school, when i was trying to figure out what to study at college i always kept going back to what this person would think because of previous conversations we had. i worried so much about what they believed and how they would react that i wasn't really making the choice that was best for me. yes, i loved interior design. yes, helping others through social work is important to me. but, i was trying to please them. it wasn't until i finally made the choice that i wanted that i realized how much i had been missing. so, when you're faced with a choice...do it because you want to. because you believe in it. not because someone else tells you to.

what makes you happy today?

beauty.

yesterday i remembered i have a creative arts final project due on friday! so, rather than come up with something new i decided to use a project i already had done this semester. not that it's anything fancy but here's my paragraph i sent in with the photos...

"For me, creative arts as an idea is being able to see the beauty that is within the world, both natural and man made for it's true potential. My project is a collage of a quote that represents this idea in my life. To be able to see beauty and appreciate it, in all forms, is what I hope to accomplish in my own life. For this project I ripped various patterns of scrapbook paper, along with various materials including; permanent marker, plastic buttons, and scrapbook paper. I love the image of the two birds singing on the tree branch. It is through enjoying the simple beauty in the world that brings me happiness. It also shows that art can be found anywhere, whether it be in performing arts, art or art found in nature and everyday life."

that's life.

so i went to this concert tonight for my creative arts class. it was quite excellent i must say. the musicians made all of their own instruments with recycled materials found in the scrap yard.

on another random note. my life just wouldn't be exciting without a semi-awkward dating experience to bring a good laugh to an average school night. tonight i called one of my neighbor friends to ask him to the iwa dance coming up in a couple weeks. but, he didn't answer so i left a message. well he called back and the conversation went something like this...

.........me: hey there's an iwa dance coming up and i was wondering if you would want to go with me? him: sure!...who is this?...........

yes, welcome to the excitement that is my life. lesson learned...always check the message when you receive a call from an unknown number. :)
